What to do in Katowice?
Do not miss a visit to the Silesian Museum, a large part of which is underground. The museum was built in the premises of the former "Katowice" mine. The tower of the same name, which was part of the original mine, offers a beautiful view of the whole Katowice. Underground you can see interesting expositions not only about mining, above the land, you can admire atypical glass buildings.
An element of modern Katowice architecture is the arena called Spodek, a symbol of the city and modern Polish architecture. Its unique shape really resembles the UFO. Each evening, the arena is illuminateted by a lot of colorful lights and the whole spectacle is an impressive experience for visitors of the city. The Spodek arena is also used to host concerts of world artists and sports competitions.
An oasis of peace in the central part of the city crates a possibility to take some rest after a busy day in the streets. You will find more than 90 tree species, and in the spring and summer beautiful blooming bushes. Part of the park is then modified in a classic English style, and there are also pavements lined with roses. Also noteworthy is the wooden church of St. Michael Archangel.
