Zlín, it is not just Baťa, although it would be a pity to miss the building No. 21 - the Zlín skyscraper or the magical Baťa houses when visiting the city. But it offers much more, go through the local zoo (do not forget the rays bay!) Or take the boat through the Bata Canal and get to know the Zlín region from a different perspective.
Where to go in Zlín?
Everybody in Zlín would call it the Twenty-one - the former Baťa's Factory Building No. 21 was one of the first high-rise buildings in Europe. You can find here a real rarity - a lift and Tomáš Baťa's office at the same time with a sink and air conditioning. Drive up to the last 17th floor and enjoy the breathtaking view of Zlín from the viewing terrace with a café.
The symmetrical houses with a front garden and a typical brick façade became a symbol of Zlín. Bata had built them for his laborers so that they would not have to commute to work daily. At that time, it was a luxury home and, together with the high wages in the factory, caused the population to come to Zlín. Nowadays, the houses are a unique monument and have been used by their owners for more than 80 years.
The most beautiful zoo in the Czech Republic, as every inhabitant of Zlín would proudly call it, is visited by more than half a million visitors every year! The Zoo is divided in continents, so that you can travel to Africa, Asia, Australia or America in one day. The biggest attractions are the Yucatan Tropical Hall or the new rays pavilion, where you will experience contact with the underwater world on your own skin.
