Leo Express Ready for Further Heatwaves
Offers Up to 150% Compensation for Non-Functioning Air Conditioning and Provides Electrolyte Tablets Onboard

Leo Express regularly inspects and services its air conditioning systems to ensure they remain fully operational during hot summer days. Should an air conditioning failure occur, passengers are eligible for compensation ranging from 25% to 150% of the ticket price in Leo Credits. The carrier also keeps emergency supplies of water and dissolvable electrolyte tablets onboard. In addition, it is testing other technologies to enhance passenger comfort, such as misting devices and fans.
“Prevention is key. We regularly inspect and service our air conditioning systems to ensure they remain fully functional throughout the summer. If the air conditioning fails in an entire train, we provide passengers with compensation ranging from 25% to 150% of the ticket price in leo credits, depending on the severity of the situation. Passengers can use these credits to purchase future tickets or onboard refreshments. The air conditioning is automatically adjusted according to the outside temperature so that the difference between the interior and exterior does not exceed the recommended 5–7°C, helping to prevent temperature shocks,” explains Emil Sedlařík, spokesperson for Leo Express.
Before departure, Leo Express trains are pre-cooled to ensure a comfortable onboard environment from the moment passengers board. When necessary, the carrier also applies additional measures, such as ventilation through open windows or shading with curtains and blinds where the train design allows. Some trainsets are also equipped with their own backup power supply, helping to maintain air conditioning operation in the event of a power outage. Leo Express is simultaneously testing additional technologies to improve thermal comfort, including misting devices and fans.
Fluids, Ice Cream and Electrolyte Tablets
“During the journey, we also place great emphasis on proper hydration. Passengers can purchase cold beverages and refreshments onboard, and ice cream is available on selected services. In addition to our emergency supply of bottled water, we are now introducing single-use dissolvable electrolyte tablets. When mixed with water, they helpquickly replenish fluids and minerals lost through perspiration and reduce the risk of dehydration during periods of high temperatures,” Sedlařík adds.
Leo Express’s goal is to ensure that travel remains comfortable, safe and reliable even during the hottest summer days. This is why it is also important for passengers to prepare adequately for their journey. Although sufficient beverages are available onboard, the carrier recommends that passengers bring their own drinks so they cancontinue replenishing fluids not only during the train journey but throughout the day. Passengers who take medication regularly should also ideally keep it with them while travelling.
