The number of Leo Express passengers increased by more than 19% and exceeded 4.5 million
It recorded the highest growth among Czech carriers despite market stagnation
Prague, 2 February 2026
Leo Express recorded a year-on-year increase of more than 19.2% in the number of passengers carried across all its routes in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland, making it the fastest-growingCzech transport operator. In total, the company transported 4.565 million passengers compared to 3.831 million in 2024. This year, the carrier expects growth of at least another 1.5 million passengers, reaching a total of more than 6 million. According to preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office on rail passenger numbers for the first three quarters of the year, overall market growth has stalled. However, Leo Express achieved growth of more than 25% on its commercial routes in the Czech Republic. At the same time, the company reported 100% functionality of air conditioning and heating systems and a 90% customer satisfaction rate regarding onboard cleanliness.
“In terms of the number of passengers carried on our routes, we recorded the highest percentage increase, meaning we are the fastest-growing Czech carrier. More than 4.5 million transported passengers are further proof of the high quality of Leo Express services. As the only carrier, we have committed year-round to compensating customers for non-functional air conditioning or heating; however, last year there was no need to compensate a single ticket thanks to our reliability. Customer satisfaction with onboard cleanliness and refreshments is also exceptional,” explains Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express.
Leo Express has traditionally ranked among the best carriers in Central Europe, particularly in the areas of safety and reliability, despite extensive track closures on Corridor 1. In 2025, the carrier recorded no incidents caused by its own operations and no injuries. At the same time, only 8.95% of its services were delayed due to reasons on the operator’s side.
Passenger numbers at Leo Express continued to grow even though, according to preliminary data from the Czech Statistical Office, the Czech railway market did not record growth in passenger numbers during thefirst three quarters of last year. On its commercial routes in the Czech Republic, Leo Express achieved growth of 25.6% last year and transported more than one million passengers. “The data show that passengerflows are shifting among carriers in the Czech Republic. Leo Express transported 4.565 million passengers compared to 3.831 million in 2024” explains Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express. The number of train-kilometres operated by the carrier increased by 7.9% to 4.9 million.
Given the growth trend and the launch of additional routes, the carrier expects a significant increase in passenger numbers in 2026, by at least 1.5 million to more than 6 million passengers. From 1 March 2026, Leo Express will launch a new route from Kraków to Warsaw operating twice daily, increasing the number of services between Prague and Kraków to up to four per day. From 30 April 2026, the carrier will launch a new route from Prague to Bratislava and return to the Slovácko region, where Leo Express services have historically been very popular. Trains will again operate on the Prague – Přerov – Hulín – Otrokovice – Staré Město u Uherského Hradiště route, with the new service continuing via Hodonín and Břeclav to Bratislava. Leo Express will offer two return services daily. In June, the carrier will also launch a new trans-Europeancommercial connection from Przemyśl to Dresden, Leipzig, Erfurt and Frankfurt.
100% Air Conditioning and Heating Functionality, High Customer Satisfaction
For several years, Leo Express has guaranteed the functionality of air conditioning, otherwise refunding passengers the full ticket price. While air conditioning functionality reached 99.99% in 2024, it achieved100% last year. The guarantee was also extended to include heating during the winter months.
Passenger surveys conducted after journeys, which Leo Express regularly sends to its customers and which were completed by more than 24,000 respondents, show that 90% of passengers are satisfied withonboard cleanliness. Leo Express maintains this high standard through regular cleaning. A total of 89% of passengers are satisfied with staff and with onboard refreshments. Only three percent of passengersexpressed dissatisfaction.

Since December 2019, Leo Express has also operated regional trains in the Pardubice region in the Czech Republic, and in December 2023, the company took over regional rail services on the busiest Slovak line, Bratislava – Komárno. The company already has experience in the German market, where it operated train services between Berlin and Stuttgart from 2017 to 2020. For 2026, new connections are planned from Prague via Olomouc to Bratislava, from Kraków to Warsaw, as well as from Przemyśl via Kraków and Prague to Frankfurt and Frankfurt Airport. Together with its main shareholder, the Spanish state railways Renfe, it plans strong growth in Europe in the coming years, both in commercial routes and in public service obligations.
