Leo Express commences ticket sales for the Bratislava–Komárno service and introduces a special 1 eur per day annual Danubepass.

Quality massively improved with introduction of modern rolling stock

Prague, November 6, 2023 - Leo Express has launched ticket sales in the Danube region on the route Bratislava-Dunajská Streda-Vel'ký Meder-Komárno, which Leo Express took over from ZSSK and ÖBB with operational start on December 10, 2023. The fare between Bratislava and Komarno remains at €5.25 despite massively improved quality and time tickets for 7, 30 and 90 days are introduced. To mark the launch, the company also offers a special 365-euro annual ticket called the DanubePass. The price includes priority seating and access to the lounge at Bratislava Main Railway Station. Leo Express also brings a new quality standard to the route. In addition to air conditioning, Wi-Fi and wheelchair-accessible toilets, the trains are low-floor, making them ideal for transporting bicycles or baby carriages and accessible to the disabled. Leo Express will present the trains and services for intercity passengers and tourists in the Danube region to the public in Bratislava on November 7. Tickets and more information about the services and the launch are available at www.leoexpress.com.

We are pleased to be working with the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic on this important project, which includes intercity, regional and suburban transport around the capital city of Bratislava and the Danube region.

Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express

"Tourists from all over Central Europe love this region, with opportunities to cycle from Komárno to Bratislava along the European Cycle Route in the summer or to visit the thermal baths in Dunajská Streda and Vel'ký Meder or the military historical architecture at the foot of the Danube in Komárno. Leo Express now brings the highest quality of rail travel to this region ever. From December 10, we will use modern, low-floor, air-conditioned trains equipped with Wi-Fi, a children's compartment, a wheelchair toilet and a baby changing table. One of our goals is to build on Leo Express' very good track record in Slovakia in terms of reliability and safety," says Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express.

“We are pleased that on important line Komárno – Dunajská Streda – Bratislava, there will be an increase in both capacity and total volume of train connections. Rail transportation is even more ecological, the more people choose this mode of transport and provide relief to road transportation and our cities,” says the Minister of Transport of the Slovak Republic, Josef Ráž jr.

Leo Express will operate on the Bratislava-Dunajská Streda-Vel'ký Meder-Komárno line with the start of the new timetable on December 10, 2023. Leo Express took over the line from ZSSK and ÖBB. The company has already started selling tickets and has maintained the prices that customers are used to on the line, for example €5.25 between Bratislava and Komárno. Twenty-one units will be used, each with a capacity of almost 240 passengers, including 140 seats. Leo Express will provide almost 100 connections a day. At the same time, there will be a densification of connections and an increase in capacity during peak hours between Dunajská Streda, Kvetoslavov and Bratislava, where trains will run at intervals of up to 20 minutes during peak hours.

"Thanks to the new units and increased capacity, passengers will get more comfort. During the whole year, Leo Express will ensure thermal comfort along the entire route thanks to air conditioning and other technologies. In Bratislava, passengers who purchase an annual time ticket will be able to a passenger lounge," adds Peter Köhler.

New on the line - time tickets and annual passes for one euro a day

On the Bratislava - Komárno line, Leo Express now offers time tickets, which are the optimal option for regular commuters. They are ideal for those who travel several times a week for work, school or leisure.

Time tickets are available for 7, 30 and 90 days. The ticket is issued for a specific route and period and allows the holder to make unlimited train journeys on the purchased route, in any direction or section, for the entire validity period of the ticket. The tickets are intended exclusively for members of the Smile Club loyalty program and also entitle their holders to use the Leo Express Lounge at the Bratislava Main Railway Station.

"On the occasion of the launch of the new line, Leo Express has prepared a limited edition of time tickets with a validity of one year. The company is offering 365 days of travel for 365 euros and a special package for loyal customers. The annual ticket allows you to travel for one euro per day," explains Peter Köhler.

Presentation of new trains and services on November 7 in Bratislava

Leo Express will present its trains and services for the Danube region to the public on November 7, 2023 from 14:00 at the Bratislava Main Railway Station. Passengers will not only be able to see the low-floor trains with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and toilets, but also chat with the Leo Express team, take part in a competition for valuable prizes or enjoy a hot drink to warm up.

"Everyone who wants to experience the quality of Leo Express services is invited to the train presentation. They can also test the quality on our commercial routes in Slovakia, the Czech Republic or in Poland and in the Orlicko region," adds Petr Köhler.

Passengers who sign up for the Leo Express Smile Club loyalty program on the presentation day will receive 50 leo credits, the equivalent of two euros, which they can use to buy tickets. Leo Express is in the process of training staff and has staff in place to ensure the smooth running of the service. However, it is offering positions for mechanics, electricians, train drivers and stewards for ongoing staffing. A stand with more information will be set up on site for those interested.

Tourist region in the heart of Europe by train and bicycle

One of the goals of Leo Express is to increase tourism in the Danube region. The region is particularly famous for its thermal springs and swimming pools, which tourists can visit by train in Dunajská Streda and Vel'ký Meder.

The Danube region is also ideal for cycling. The low-floor trains of Leo Express will allow for easy transportation of bicycles. The Komárno region offers many cycling routes suitable for families and experienced cyclists. Cyclists can cycle from Bratislava to Komárno along the Danube cycle path, which is part of the European EuroVelo 6 cycle path.

Another popular destination is the Malkia Park, a private zoo near Dunajská Streda, which is home to a variety of felines. Adrenaline lovers will be attracted by the Slovakia Ring motor racing circuit in Orechová Potôň, where annual races such as the FIA WTCC, FIA GT Series, ADAC GT Masters, The Grand Prix Slovakia and the Alpe Adria Championship are held.
