Nearly 25,000 passengers have contributed to carbon footprint offsetting with Leo Express this year

The carrier will transport bicycles free of charge during European Mobility Week

Prague, 16. září 2026

Leo Express is joining this year’s European Mobility Week, which highlights the importance of accessible and sustainable transport for all generations. From 16 to 22 September, the carrier will therefore transport bicycles free of charge on all its regional services in the Orlicko and Podunajsko regions. Leo Express also focuses on more sustainable travel in the long term – since the beginning of this year, 24,918 passengers have participated in carbon footprint offsetting, with their contributions helping to offset 76.2 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

This year’s theme of European Mobility Week is very close to us. Public transport makes sense when it is genuinely accessible to people across generations and can be part of their everyday lives, whether they are travelling to school, work, a doctor’s appointment or for leisure. That is why we want to further encourage more sustainable ways of travelling, and from 16 to 22 September we will transport bicycles free of charge on all our regional services in the Orlicko and Podunajsko regions,” says Emil Sedlařík, spokesperson for Leo Express.

This year’s European Mobility Week raises the question of how to create transport systems that are accessible and usable for children, young people, adults and seniors, while also taking into account the needs of future generations.

Leo Express also supports the idea of mobility that is accessible to different generations through discounted fares. Children, pupils, students and seniors travel on the carrier’s train services within the Czech Republic in Economy Class with a 50% fare discount. In addition, Leo Express returns 25% of the full ticket price to Smile Club members in leo credits once their journey has been completed. These credits can be used to purchase further tickets or refreshments on board.

Passengers can find more information about the benefits and membership on the Leo Express website.

Rail as part of more sustainable mobility

Sustainable mobility is not only about accessibility. The environmental impact of different modes of transport also plays an important role.

In terms of direct emissions, rail is among the most environmentally friendly modes of transport. According to the latest data from the European Environment Agency, rail transport accounted for only 0.3% of direct greenhouse gas emissions from transport in the EU in 2023.

When purchasing a ticket, Leo Express passengers can also voluntarily contribute to offsetting their carbon footprint. In the final step of the booking process, they simply select the “CO₂ offset” option. The amount of the contribution depends on the specific connection, the number of kilometres travelled and the selected travel class.

Leo Express subsequently uses the funds collected to support environmental projects

In March 2025, the fifth tree-planting initiative took place as part of Leo Express’s carbon footprint offsetting programme, to which passengers can actively contribute. Through voting on social media, passengers can also decide which project Leo Express will support. Together, more than €20,000 has already been contributed towards the planting of 202 trees in Czech and Slovak municipalities.

Since the beginning of 2026, 24,918 passengers have participated in carbon footprint offsetting. Thanks to their contributions, 76.2 tonnes of CO₂ emissions have been offset.
