Leo Express is launching a new train line connecting Frankfurt – Prague – Przemyśl

In Poland, the service will initially operate by bus, with trains to be introduced at a later stage. In summer, Leo Express will also deploy couchettes and introduce a Business Class on the route.

Prague, June 23 2026

Starting June 25, Leo Express trains will operate on the Frankfurt – Prague – Przemyśl route and back. The carrier will deploy modern RIC coaches designed for international operation, equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi. Passengers will also be offered refreshments and additional onboard services. In a subsequent phase, Leo Express plans to expand its services to include a Business Class and couchettes. Tickets are available from EUR 9,9.

Leo Express is prepared to operate the new connection up to Przemyśl by train immediately once the equilibrium test in Poland is resolved. Leo Express will in the meantime operate a bus connection on the Bohumín – Kraków – Tarnów – Rzeszów – Przemyśl stretch, which will transport passengers with already purchased tickets and connect to the trains in both directions.

Due to extensive infrastructure works in Germany, the train services had their timetables adjusted, and Leo Express received the final version of the temporary timetable only shortly before the start of the line.

“One of Leo Express’s goals is to connect major European agglomerations and offer comfortable travel options on routes where direct connections have not been available so far. The potential of the new line lies in breaking down the perceived barrier between Eastern and Western Europe by linking key economic and cultural hubs with the borders of Ukraine.  Our long-term strategy is to build trans-European transport corridors that provide a more environmentally friendly mode of transport and offer a comfortable alternative to air, bus, and car travel,” says Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express.

The route will be operated by modernized RIC express coaches for international operation, equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi, including onboard catering familiar to passengers from other Leo Express services. In the initial phase of operation, three first-class coaches will be deployed, each with a capacity of 54 seats, and will operate as Economy class. During the summer, services will be expanded to include additional Business class coaches as well as sleeping cars. The operator is prepared to further increase the number of coaches depending on demand. The onboard staff will be able to communicate in Polish, Czech, English, and German.

Current timetable

The train will depart from Bohumín in the afternoon, arriving in Prague’s main station in the evening, and then continue overnight to Frankfurt Airport. In the opposite direction, the train will depart at 14:39 from Frankfurt Airport, arrive in Prague during the night, and then stop in Bohumín at 6:01 in the morning. In Germany, the train will also stop at Leipzig, Fulda, Hanau, Offenbach and Frankfurt (Süd).

  • Bohumín 17:45 – Prague 22:32 – Dresden 1:38 – Frankfurt Airport 8:06
  • Frankfurt Airport 14:39 – Dresden 22:30 – Prague 1:17 – Bohumín 6:01

The current timetable is a compromise reflecting track closures and infrastructure construction work in Germany, as well as a change in the departure time from Frankfurt. Extensive closures will take place throughout the summer and autumn, affecting both timings and the stations currently served by Leo Express.  As a result of this situation, the train services had their timetables adjusted, and Leo Express received the final version of the temporary timetable only shortly before the launch of the line. As soon as the carrier receives the timetables for the following period, they will be gradually added to the reservation system. Due to construction works in Germany, the timetable may vary on individual days. Leo Express recommends that passengers check the specific departure times in the reservation system.

Trains to Przemyśl to start after resolution of the economic equilibrium test in Poland

Due to the ongoing economic equilibrium test, Leo Express is currently unable to operate services between the Czech border and Przemyśl and back by train. For this reason, the operator is currently deploying buses that will transport passengers with already purchased tickets and provide connections to trains in both directions. Taking into account the travel time of the buses, they will stop at Bohumín, Kraków, Tarnów, Rzeszów and Przemyśl. Passengers travelling to stations where the bus does not stop will be refunded the ticket price by Leo Express and will additionally receive compensation of 100% of the ticket price in leo credits, which can be used to purchase future tickets or onboard refreshments.

“Ensuring that our passengers reach their destination remains our top priority. In this situation, we are introducing a bus connection that will transport passengers with already purchased tickets. They will then transfer to a Leo Express train and continue their journey. We will start selling tickets for the Polish section once we are able to operate trains along the entire route,” explains Leo Express CEO Peter Köhler, adding:

“The new Leo Express service is an international connection focusing on Ukrainians travelling to Przemysl as well as international travellers from Krakow, Tarnów and Rzeszów. We trust that our service, which provides unique European transport options not present at the moment will soon be approved.“
